ABOUT KUNZITE GEMSTONES

Kaisilver describes Kunzite as the attractive pink-to-violet variety of spodumene, with its color caused by trace amounts of manganese. The color range extends from delicate pastel pink and lilac to stronger pink, violet and violetish-purple shades. The most vivid colors are generally the most desirable. Kaisilver also notes that kunzite is often found in large sizes and can produce impressive faceted gemstones. There a few features of Kunzite gems that most jewelers do not disclose, we cover that and more in this report. We can provide both loose Kunzite gems and custom crafted jewelry with Kunzite, or any other gemstone of your choice.

The Kaisilver support team at sales@kaisilver.com welcomes questions related to gems and jewelry, this even if you plan to purchase nothing from us.

Hardness and Durability

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, kunzite has reasonable resistance to scratching. However, hardness should not be confused with toughness. Kaisilver points out that kunzite has two perfect cleavage directions, making it vulnerable to splitting from a sharp impact or sudden temperature change. For this reason, protective settings and jewelry exposed to less physical wear are preferable. Kaisilver recommends treating the gem with care despite its respectable hardness. It might not be easy to grasp the technical words used in this paragraph, so suffice it to say that Kunzite needs a fair amount of care when being worn.

Color Fading

One important characteristic is kunzite's sensitivity to strong light and heat. Natural color can fade with prolonged exposure, while treated color can also be unstable. Kaisilver therefore considers kunzite better suited to jewelry that is not continually exposed to intense sunlight. Storing the gem away from strong light when not being worn can help preserve its color. It is important to be aware of such details before, buying Kunzite gems or jewelry set with Kunzite. For all practical purposes, a faded Kunzite gem cannot get back its color.

Important Sources

Kunzite occurs mainly in pegmatite deposits. Kaisilver recognizes important sources in Brazil, Afghanistan, Madagascar and California in the United States. California's Pala district is historically significant because kunzite was first discovered there in 1902. Other producing localities have also yielded gem-quality material. Kaisilver procures Kunzite gems directly from the mining and major cutting operations. We are also fully equipped to custom cut Kunzite or any other gemstone.

Kunzite Name Origin

Kaisilver notes that the gemstone received its name from George Frederick Kunz, the influential American gemologist who identified kunzite as a distinct variety of spodumene. The gem was first recognized as a unique gemstone around 1902, linking its modern name directly to one of America's most prominent early gemologists.

KAISILVER BUYER FEEDBACK

Dear Ms. Seang, Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am very excited and overwhelmed to receive my ring and earrings. The ring is EXACTLY the same as the one that was stolen and I never thought I could replace it exactly, even to the spinal effect of the stones. The result is the ring is perfectly the same and the earrings match so well, just like the ones I lost. I do thank you so much. Your service and products have been excellent, and I would thoroughly recommend you to anyone. Reading the comments of other people you must be very pleased with the pleasure you give to your customers, when they receive your products. Please use me for publicity if you wish. Thank you also for your good wishes and blessing.
